Why does the Aero-X look different than the prototype in your videos?
The design of the Aero-X reflects the lessons learned in developing and flying the prototype vehicle. The prototype first flew in 2007 and was designed to prove the concept of intuitive flight. Along the way we used it to develop a control system and powertrain. It was never intended as a production vehicle, but rather a test-bed on which we could experiment and develop. The prototype has proved an essential tool in designing the Aero-X and understanding the nuances of our task.
Is the prototype still flying?
As of the spring of 2014, we continue to fly the prototype vehicle to develop and test sub-systems of the Aero-X platform. Currently we are performing design and simulation work that once converted to hardware will be fitted to the prototype for field trials – that is our typical development cycle.
